xOrdinary Moments with Extraordinary People

I just wrapped up four days at xOrdinary—and honestly, I’m still catching my breath. Instead of hiding behind the scenes like I would do, I decided to be present at this group exhibition alongside other talented creators. It felt important to see how visitors reacted,  how much I can handle, how much I still want to grow, and how good it feels to share what I love with people who care.

Hearing visitors describe my work as “unique” or “never seen before” was surreal. Those words hit differently when you've spent so many hours shaping clay alone, just me trusting my gut. It felt like a little reward for being stubborn with my ideas, my process, and doing things the way that feels right to me.

The whole thing felt like coming out of a long marathon—tired, but also hydrated. Fed by conversations, by the curious faces, by strangers who got excited about textures and forms. I was answering questions all day, and weirdly, I didn’t mind at all. Every question reminded me how special ceramics are. Most people never think about how much clay touches our lives—our tableware, our toilets, the tiles we walk on.

A little about xOrdinary,—it’s a design platform that grew out of MIFF (the Malaysian International Furniture Fair, Southeast Asia's largest furniture trade show), and it’s all about encouraging bold, independent ideas in design. It’s a place where people are doing things differently, and I’m grateful to be a small part of that.

Looking back, I’m so glad I decided to show up for this one. I met so many amazing artists and designers from all sorts of practices, and there was this instant click—like we’ve all been shaped by the same kind of fire. Passionate, a little obsessive maybe, but always striving to make something honest.

Anyway, I’m still processing everything, but I just wanted to share a little moment with you. Enjoy the little gallery below:

People getting know about each other on the spot.

Just me and Bhatreashya in-front of the side table she designed for Natureloop, the recycle plastic manufacturer.

Gathering around the table designed and made by Hock, using reclaimed wood. Playing with ‘gasing’ a traditional game, on top of the surface with contour of Penang Island, where Hock came from.

Me and SoTheBees sitting on bean bags filled with reused sponge by Klassit and, playing ‘congkak’ on a beautiful crafted wooden coffee table both from Dad’s Wood.
