2023 has been an incredible journey, a year that I decided to bring my ceramic creations into the spotlight. As I reflect on this year, I realize it was filled with growth, challenges, and the joy of sharing my work with a wider audience. This blog post is a celebration of my milestones and a testament to the vibrant community that has supported me along the way.
Stepping Into the Spotlight
The most significant leap I made this year was deciding to present my work to the public. It was both thrilling and daunting, but ultimately, it was the first step towards embracing my identity as a ceramic artist. My journey through various markets was a whirlwind of experiences, witnessing my growth in confidence and socialization.
- Pingmin Market, Kuala Lumpur (April): My first market experience, where I dipped my toes into the vast ocean of art entrepreneurship.
- Youni Market, Subang (June): Here, I connected with a vibrant crowd, eager for unique, handmade creations.
- The Godown Arts Centre, Kuala Lumpur (July): An event that allowed me to immerse myself in the rich, diverse community of visitors.
- Pots Head Pottery Market, Penang (August): A memorable market where I get to know more muddy friends and I had the privilege to exhibit at the historic St Jo's Heritage Building alongside fellow potters.
A Leap with the Young Art Entrepreneurs Program
Perhaps the most pivotal moment of 2023 was my decision to join the Young Art Entrepreneurs (YAE) Program Cohort 8, run by the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. This program was a beacon for young artists like myself, offering not just space but invaluable opportunities to learn and grow as an entrepreneur in the art world.
The YAE program emphasized community and collaboration. We supported each other, shared insights, and celebrated our progress together. This sense of belonging and mutual growth was instrumental in my journey. We concluded the three-month program with the YAE! Showcase titled "Turning Inspiration Into Reality" in October 2023. This event was not just a showcase but a celebration of our journey, our challenges, and our victories.
Realizations and Revelations
This year has taught me that the path of an artist is never walked alone. The support, encouragement, and camaraderie I've found in markets, the YAE program, and the broader ceramics community have been overwhelming. I've had my share of heartwarming experiences that underscored a powerful realization: I can do this, and I can achieve even more.
Looking back, I see a year filled with firsts, with learning, and most importantly, with connections. As I forge ahead, I carry with me the lessons of 2023, ready to explore new horizons in the world of ceramics.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey this year. Here's to more creations, more experiences, and more shared moments in the years to come.
